The Buccaneer defense did it’s job to get off the field, and the Bucs special teams did them one better.
The defensive stand was highlighted by a sack of QB Philip Rivers by LB Mason Foster. The Chargers were able to convert on the ensuing third down, but were stopped again on three straight plays as S Mark Barron broke up a deep pass, RB Ryan Mathews managed a short run, and the Bucs tackled RB Ronnie Brown in the backfield for a four yard loss on a third down passing play.
On fourth down, LB Dekoda Watson broke throught the line and got his hand on the Mike Scifres punt. The ball bounced around before being scooped up by Buccaneer LB and team captain, Adam Hayward who ran it in for a Buccaneer touchdown.
The play gave the Bucs a 17-14 lead, their first of the game. They will kickoff to the Chargers with 8:55 remaining in the first half.
