Bucs D Holds Strong On Game’s Opening Drive

The Carolina Panthers started the game with the football at their 22-yard line. A quick 10-yard connection to WR Steve Smith started QB Cam Newton’s day.

On the ensuing first down, he tried the same play and the pass fell incomplete. After a Carolina false start penalty, the Buccaneer’s number one run defense did it’s job, limiting RB Jonathan Stewart to just a few yards on a sweep to the outside.

Facing third-and-long, Newton dropped back to pass and was hit in the pocket by Buccaneer DT Gerald McCoy. The pass fell incomplete, forcing the Justin Medlock punt.

A fair catch will set the Buccaneer up at their 24-yard line to take their first offensive snaps of the game.
