The San Diego Chargers offense was knocking on the door in Buccaneer territory. They had already succeeded on two third-down conversion attempts on the drive, and were set up in the third such situation at the Buccaneer 27-yard line. It looked as though the Chargers would be at least tying the game at 24.
On the third-and-four play, QB Philip Rivers was flushed out of the pocket to the right. Before heading out of bounds behind the first down marker, he passed the ball forward, intented for WR Eddie Royal. But Buccaneer CB Leonard Johnson was able to cut the pass off, intercepting it at the 23 yard line.
Johnson took off, streaking up the field and breaking tackles before finally finding the space and breaking free. After one last failed diving attempt to stop the cornerback, Johnson strutted into the end zone, putting the Buccaneers up by 10 points, 31-21.
The Chargers will get the ball back at their 20-yard line after the touchback with 13:22 remaining in the game.
