Washington Takes Lead as First Quarter Closes

Following the Barth field goal, the ensuing Washington Redskin drive began at the Bucs’ 25-yard line.

After an 4-yard run, the Redskins ran up some yardage with a 17-yard Alfred Morris run, then QB Robert Griffin III connected with FB Darrel Young wide open in the right flat, who took off on a 24-yard gain.

On the ensuing first down, a four yard Alfred Morris run was negated by a holding penalty on WR Josh Morgan, which set up first-and-20 from the Buccaneer 40-yard line. Under pressure, Griffin dumped the ball over the head of the oncoming Michael Bennett to his tight end Fred Davis. Davis picked up the first down yardage and more, leaving the Redskins at the Bucs’ 14-yard line.

Two plays later, on a third-and-six, RGIII scrambled up the middle, collided with Mark Barron, and lost the ball at the goal line. WR Pierre Garcon jumped on the ball after it trickled into the end zone for a touchdown. The Billy Cundiff extra point was good and the Redskins took the lead 7-3.

The drive ended with no time left in the first quarter. The Buccaneers will receive the kick to start the second quarter.
