The headline-grabbing trade of Aqib Talib wasn’t the only roster move the Buccaneers made on Thursday. In another change that wasn’t tied into Thursday’s NFL trade deadline, the team promoted third-year DE Aaron Morgan from the practice squad, waiving third-year DE George Johnson to make room.
The Buccaneers signed Morgan to their practice squad on October 9, shortly after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. (Coincidentally, Jacksonville released Morgan in order to sign former Buccaneer Micheal Spurlock.) Morgan had appeared in the first four games of the season for the Jaguars, recording one tackle.
The 6-4, 250-pound edge rusher out of Louisiana-Monroe first came into the league as an undrafted free agent with Jacksonville in 2010. He made the team as a rookie and got into seven games but spent last year on injured reserve.
